A sign made by walking 行走的痕迹, 2026
地书 (ground calligraphy) is the art of using water to draw chinese characters on the pavement. In the hot sun, the signs that are drawn remain visible only briefly. This work was based on the same principle. We used all the water bottles we bought during our stay in Fulin Village to create a pink and blue figure with a water-bottle head. It carried two 10 liter bottles where water came dripping out. It kept walking on the same piece of pavement until the water ran out, creating a simple drawing: the number 8, or, when seen from a different angle; the mathematical sign symbolizing infinity. Afterwards the sign evaporated quickly.
